Our story

Morningside Farm is a third generation business that has been run by the Reeve family since it was purchased by Frank Reeve in 1948. 

It all began with 3 or 4 cows that were hand milked into a bucket whilst the cow was tethered to a fence.

In 1973, Frank’s son Neville came home to take over the reins from his father. 

The herd was up to 40 cows and signs of mechanisation were imminent. The mechanical milking machine was installed with the connection to Eskom and better machinery was purchased.
Neville’s life was cut short in 1987 due to cancer and he left behind his wife Joan and three young children. Joan took up the reins for 9 years and expanded the herd to 130 cows until her second son Joel was old enough to come home to farm after completing a diploma in Agriculture.

The business took on a new name “Reeve Farming Pty Ltd” and expanded steadily from there. Two neighbouring farms were purchased and the herd expanded to 850 cows.

Our cheese and butter business kicked off in 2012 due to an ongoing battle with our milk buyer over production quota. The cheese factory was installed very close to the dairy so the milk could literally be pumped directly from the cow to the cheese vat.

Our Products

Morningside Farm produces yellow and white cheddar cheese only. Our butter is farm style butter made the same way it was done in the early years by Frank whom first bought the farm.

Fully pasteurised
All our milk is fully pasteurised before it is converted into cheese.
Microbial rennet
The rennet used in our ingredients is microbial rennet and is not of animal origin.
Vet certified herd
Our dairy herd is routinely certified by our local veterinary clinic to be tuberculosis and brucellosis free.
Factory certified
The cheese factory is certified with the FSA Food Health and Safety Accreditation.
